The way the far right deceives the world.
The photo shows Trump signing an executive order recently pushing for a ban on transgender women from sports. He took the photo with white girls standing like a folding screen to protect them from transgender people.
However, just two days ago, Trump announced that he would abolish the U.S. Department of Education. In fact, those girls are bound to suffer damage. Not everyone can be rich. They are destroying the public world little by little under the pretext of being a transgender person, fueling hatred and eventually burning themselves down by building a bonfire under their feet. This is the actual path of far-right politics based on hatred and the deception of identity politics performed by far-right parties today.
The U.S. Department of Education was established in 1979. The smallest organization under the federal government. It mainly supports low-income public schools and students, and supports students with disabilities. It also encourages compliance with anti-discrimination based on race or gender.
If the Education Department is abolished, 6 percent of teachers' jobs in the U.S. will be evaporated all at once. Mass unemployment occurs overnight. Millions of low-income students with disabilities will have their right to education on the street. Some of those who cheered when Trump asked for the removal of transgender people will also be affected.
So why does Trump want to do away with the Department of Education? The main reason is restructuring for a small government. Trump and Elon Musk, who has taken control of the Department of Budget and Efficiency, are the first to cut the ministry by drawing a sword. They insist that the government should not unnecessarily use state money to teach students about "political correctness" and leave education to the state government, not the federal government.
The Ministry of Education's abolition of the Department of Education is based on the desire of privatization to reduce public spending by reducing taxes on the wealthy and convert public schools into private for-profit schools. This has been a long-standing Republican initiative and a long-standing slogan of neoliberal politics. Furthermore, it is an old desire of fascism.
In 1922, Mussolini undertook a major restructuring and privatization to reduce the size of government agencies. First, government agencies were withdrawn from rural areas, then post offices, and railway companies were privatized. The train did not come on time.
Hitler overturned oligarchs and capitalists on his back and privatized railroads, public banks, public works projects, construction institutions, and steel mills in 1934. The minimum wage and working conditions were removed, and the regulations were greatly eased. The labor unions were brutally suppressed by sending vigilantes. They were sometimes taken to camps.
Let's recall the famous poem "They're Here" by Martin Neumuller.
"First they came to catch the communist, but I wasn't a communist, so I didn't say anything.
Then they came to catch a trade unionist, but I didn't say anything because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then I came to catch the Jews, but I said nothing because I was not Jewish.
At last they came to get me, but there was no one to tell for me."
Although the definition of fascism is a gray area where many opinions compete, in short, it is a "political system that excludes some of the people as enemies to maintain and increase private ownership". Communists, trade unions, migrants, LGBTQ people, and Jews were the enemies under Mussolini and Hitler's fascism. And under today's far-right populism and fascism, Islam, migrants, transgender people, women, and trade unions are the main enemies.
Why would Trump build such a stronghold of fascism by setting fire to hate and burning transgender people and migrants? Money flows right behind him. On top of that, the liberal slogan "Let's not hate transgender people and migrants" and another slogan testifying political correctness are not enough. Often, those arguments cover up the path of fascism.
Fascism will emerge at any time if the system of private ownership and capitalist greed is not democratically controlled. Fascism, as white intellectuals or self-proclaimed intellectuals of color who put their enemies on the shallow knowledge world think, did not first appear exceptionally in Europe in the early 20th century, but at the very moment of genocide by colonizing the southern hemisphere at the end of the 15th century, and has been hidden from view until now, and is a permanent system embedded in capitalism and colonialism. Visible fascism now is just a form of outward-facing fascism that has been propagated inward.
The way the far-right deceives the world works like a thread in Korea. Just think about it. Yoon Suk Yeol declared that he would abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family for almost the same reason as soon as he became president. And quite a few men, regardless of ruling and opposition parties, jumped on the misogynistic politics by cheering for the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. By using misogyny, people reduce public spending and reduce public life, ultimately causing damage and pain to everyone. The path of extreme irony and foolishness.
Likewise, how about hatred of transgender people and labor unions that is prevalent in Korean society? When supporters of both ruling and opposition parties talk about transgender people and LGBTQ people, don't they unite while holding hands together? Even some feminists are willing to provide firepower to transgender hatred instigated by far-right groups around the world. They are also hesitant to seek impeachment, but how about their hatred of labor unions.
The hint of fascism does not exist only in the form of armoured vehicles in front of Congress. Schools, offices, TV, SNS, YouTube, etc. flow smoothly in our daily lives.
Trump: Let's gather white and white girls and kick out transgender people. Paths that cover up the destruction of our public lives by encouraging hatred. Pleasure to exclude, desire to dominate, enthusiasm for purity, these are politics of subtraction. Instead of adding and enriching each other's lives through solidarity and co-prosperity, the stupid politics of subtraction that ends up being reduced to a point and then extinguished by racking up the rest except for one's identity. And when you realize it, you finally have "no one to tell for me."
