테슬라는 오늘 2023년 11월 13일부터 2024년 4월 4일까지 생산된 약 3,878대의 사이버트럭에 가속 페달 고장 리콜을 발령했다고 밝혔다.

이번 리콜은 운전자가 페달을 너무 세게 밟으면 페달 패드가 분리되어 트림 아래 끼일 수 있다는 문제로 인해 발생했다. 이 경우 페달이 꼼짝없이 눌린 상태가 되어 가속을 멈출 수 없는 위험한 상황이 발생할 가능성이 있다. 특히 최고 출력 845마력의 '사이버비스트' 삼전동기 모델은 더욱 위험하다고 판단된다.

테슬라는 리콜 안내문에서 "브레이크 페달은 가속 페달과 동시에 밟았을 때에도 동력을 차단하며, 계속해서 브레이크 페달을 밟으면 마치 가속 페달을 밟지 않은 것처럼 차량을 정지시킬 수 있다"고 밝혔다. 그러나 테슬라는 가속 페달 고장 발생 시 즉각적인 조치를 취할 것을 촉구했다.

테슬라는 3월 31일 처음으로 고객으로부터 문제를 인지했으며, 4월 3일에는 두 번째 고객 불만 사례가 접수되었다. 이후 테슬라는 테스트를 진행한 결과 "허가되지 않은 변경으로 부품 조립을 돕기 위해 윤활제(비누)를 사용했으며, 잔여 윤활제가 페달 패드와 페달 간의 접착력을 감소시켰다"는 결론을 내렸다.

테슬라는 이미 4월 17일 현재 생산 라인에 투입된 모든 사이버트럭에 새로운 부품 번호를 가진 가속 페달을 장착했다고 밝혔다. 아직 판매되지 않은 기존 생산 차량 역시 출고 전에 문제 해결 작업이 진행될 예정이다.

소유자는 테슬라 고객 서비스 센터에 문의하거나 테슬라 웹사이트에 방문하여 자신의 차량이 리콜 대상인지 확인하고 수리 예약을 할 수 있다.

이번 리콜은 테슬라에게 또 다른 타격이 될 것으로 예상된다. 사이버트럭은 출시 이후 여러 차례 지연과 문제로 인해 주목을 받아왔다. 이번 리콜은 테슬라의 품질 관리 시스템에 대한 우려를 다시 불러일으킬 가능성이 높다.
