Mazda 6e, a mid-sized electric sedan that Japan's Mazda confirmed to sell in the UK. It was unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show last year, but export specifications to Europe have been set. In China, it is named EZ-6.
In Korea, the third-generation Capella (626 in Europe and the U.S.) was built on the basis of the third-generation Capella. The third-generation Capella was named the U.S. car of the year and Japan's car of the year in 1982. It was changed to front wheel rolling, but it became a sports sedan with sporty running performance. Capella will be discontinued in 2002 and will be the Mazda 6.
The Mazda 6 is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle that runs on a rear motor with a length of 4921mm and a wheelbase of 2900mm. You'll be compared to the Tesla Model 3 with 4695/2875mm, the BMW i4 with 4785/2856mm, and the Hyundai Ioniq 6 with 485/2950mm.
The car was first introduced in Changan-Matsuda, China, and is based on Changan Motors' EPA modular platform. It was first used on the Deepal SL03 in Changan, which is capable of pure electric cars and range extenders. In addition, it also supports Qualcomm-based Level 4 autonomous driving... No one knows in Europe. Staff at Mazda's European R&D Center set up cars to go to Europe. The company has implemented Mazda's unique "Jinba it thai" with 50:50 weight distribution, multi-link rear suspension and electric spoilers.
The European specifications are 241 horsepower/68.8 kWh, with 300 miles (482 kilometers) per hour and 7.8 seconds per hour. The range model is 254 horsepower/80 kWh, with 345 miles (555 kilometers)/7.6 seconds. All are rear-wheel drive.
What's unique is that the base model is up to 200kW, which takes 10 to 80 percent of charge for 22 minutes, while the range model is 95kW, which takes 45 minutes. Generally speaking, the bigger battery should be faster to charge... In the first place, I think it's because of the charging cost of "the faster the battery becomes more expensive" because there is room for batteries, but this can also be used as a driver setting.
The front wing shape also shows the remaining capacity when charged. It features frameless doors and low roof lines. The interior uses a 14.5-inch monitor without a physical button. The headrest integrated seat is sporty.
China-produced EVs are subject to a 20.8% tariff on the UK... It is currently estimated to be less than £40,000. At the current exchange rate, it is about 72 million won.
Mazda, like other Japanese companies, is late in electrification. In addition, Mazda maintains an independent company, unlike the Nissan-Honda-Mitsubishi merger and the Toyota-Sbaru relationship. Of course, Toyota signed a working capital alliance with Toyota in August 2017, with a 5.1% stake in Mazda and Mazda with a 0.25% stake in Toyota. The actual value is about five times higher by 0.25% due to stock price differences.
In addition, the Toyota-Matsuda Manufacturing, which was built in Alabama in 2018, will make about 300,000 units of the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-50, which are subcompact SUVs. They are also jointly developing connected car technologies, including V2V, V2I (infra), software and hardware. It seems that they are finding a way to survive as a small company.
Of course, we have our own technology. With the discontinuation of the RX-8 in 2012, the rotary engine (Vankel engine), which uses a triangular piston, also lost its life. However, the company developed a prototype of the range extender using the rotary engine in 2013, confirmed the official revival of the rotary engine in 2018, and announced its 2020 technology as SkyActive-X. The 830cc single-cylinder rotary engine for power generation generates 74 horsepower, and rolls the front wheels with a 17.8kWh battery and a 125kW motor. Actually, sales are not that high so far… The average price in the U.K. is 350,000 pounds (63 million won) and Japan 4.3 million yen (40 million won). I don't know if we can mass-produce it through a partnership. It's like developing MX-5 and making Fiat 124 Spider together.
Mazda is almost the only car company that has never officially entered Korea. Miata (MX-5) and others were introduced as parallel imports. I don't think the lineup will be faithful even if it is converted to electric cars.
