[Aftermath of Germany's nuclear power plant?]
Many argue that Germany should use it as a profitable stone because it has lost its national competitiveness and soaring electricity prices due to the nuclear power plant. Articles about electricity prices soaring due to the windless and cloudy Dongkelplaudet have been repeated for several years. As a recent example, there are many domestic articles citing FT articles that neighboring countries such as Sweden were under a lot of stress because of Germany due to the soaring electricity prices in December last year. In addition, local interviews are introduced that Germany's high electricity prices are serious in lowering industrial competitiveness. Some are correct, but there are misunderstandings or errors.
1. Wholesale and Retail Fee Confusion
European electricity rates are more than twice the wholesale rate. It has always been like that. It charges a lot of VAT, network usage fees, and environmental costs. This is due to the difference in policy and power market structure. It's never good to have high retail rates, but if you want to compare us to Europe, you can reduce the error by wholesale rates. In some cases, wholesale rates (SMPs) are higher than retail rates, so it's difficult to see them as retail vs. retail.
2. Confusing Power Market Characteristics
Due to the liberalization of the European electricity market, power companies sign in-kind contracts with power plants/consumers, long-term fixed-price contracts, mix them, and use derivatives. Long-term fixed-price contracts account for less than 5% of electricity generation, and SMP in Korea is a spot settlement method. As a result, it is important to be aware of the interpretation of "electricity prices tripled in one day" that the article frequently mentions. This means that today's wholesale electricity price has tripled from the previous day, but it is rarely reflected in retail rates. Retail rates remain much more stable and are only reflected in consumers' rate bills. Another misconception is that, like SMP in Korea, a sudden increase in wholesale electricity prices maintains that level for a considerable period of time.
Wholesale electricity prices in Europe are highly volatile. It is common to return to their original state tomorrow after suddenly tripling today. That is why the average term price is important, and it is important to look at how the power plants/electric companies/consumers contract. In many cases, contracts that regularly absorb the volatility without reflecting the daily volatility. The actual level of burden must be determined by checking the term average, the monthly average, and the annual average.
3. What was the wholesale electricity price in 2024 for Germany, neighboring countries and Korea (1 euro = 1500 won applied)
1) Overall 2024 Average: Sweden <Germany <Korea>
Germany 78.51 euros/MWh = 118 won/kWh
Korea = KRW 128/kWh
Sweden (metropolitan area) 49.71 euros/MWh = 75 won/kWh
Sweden (northern) 25.05 euros/MWh = 38 won/kWh
2) December 2024 Average: Sweden <Korea <Germany>
Germany 108.32 euros/MWh = 162 won/kWh
Korea = KRW 117/kWh
Sweden (metropolitan area) 60.16 euros/MWh = KRW 90/kWh
SWEDEN (Northern) 10.93 euros/MWh = 16 won/kWh
3) December 12, 2024 (Monthly Best Day): Korea <Sweden <Germany>
Germany 395.34 euros/MWh = 593 won/kWh
Korea = 132 won/kWh (December 16)
Sweden (metropolitan area) 309.97 euros/MWh = 465 won/kWh
Sweden (northern) 9.55 euros/MWh = 14 won/kWh
4) December 22, 2024 (Month Lowest Day): Sweden <Germany <Korea>
Germany 22.93 euros/MWh = 34 won/kWh
Korea = 86 won/kWh (December 29)
Sweden (metropolitan area) 21.63 euros/MWh = 32 won/kWh
SWEDEN (Northern) 10.61 euros/MWh = 16 won/kWh
In summary, on average, wholesale electricity was cheaper in Germany than ours in 2024. Sweden has four electric grids even within a country, with a large difference in electricity rates between the metropolitan area close to Germany and the north adjacent to Finland. In the Swedish metropolitan area, wholesale rates tend to be linked to Germany. This occurs due to a lack of capacity in the Swedish national grid.
Wholesale electricity prices in Germany rose to W593 on Dec. 12, but hit W34 on Dec. 22 (W70 on Dec. 15). Although electricity prices are low in northern Sweden due to abundant hydropower and a lack of demand, a lack of transmission grids does not help cut prices for electricity in the Seoul metropolitan area.
In Korea, the highest SMP price in December was 132 won and the lowest price was 86 won, which is small. On average in December, wholesale electricity was 28% cheaper in Korea than in Germany, but it is 10% more expensive annually. Nuclear power plants that supply electricity at low cost supply 30% of electricity, but the cost of LNG power generation and renewable energy is reflected. In addition, structures to curb volatility in electricity rates also have an impact. (For reference, 50% of electricity in Germany comes from renewable energy generation, 30% in Europe as a whole, and 9% in us. Germany has no nuclear power plants, 24% of electricity in Europe, 30% in nuclear power plants for us.)
4. Conclusion
Most experts predict that Germany could have lowered electricity rates further if it hadn't done nuclear power. I think so, too. However, the article that electricity prices soared due to Germany's nuclear dismantlement ignores a larger factor in the causal relationship. In Korea, if LNG supply is halved in one month compared to the plan, electricity rates will inevitably rise for a certain period of time regardless of whether or not Korea owns a nuclear power plant. Gas supply has plummeted due to war, the proportion of renewable energy is high, the wide-area network is insufficient, and the reduction of the base load (nuclear power plant) is a combination of small
[Evidence of torture in 1980]
.
On December 24, 2024, my eldest brother (Ophthalmologist Lee Tae-won) died of a cerebral infarction, so I took a plane in a hurry and went to Korea to send my eldest brother. As I went along, Christmas in 2024 disappeared on the plane due to the jet lag. Long story short, my father also had two procedures when he was alive due to blocked carotid arteries. Doctors from my older brother's friends, who came to my big brother's statue, urged me to get a comprehensive checkup, saying that if there are two or more blood vessel problems in the house, there is a genetic factor. So, I underwent comprehensive check-ups such as MRA, MRI, and ultrasound, and so on, and was examined at Samsung Hospital. The visible results were disastrous.
.
He is not dead yet, but he has two bombs in his head (aneurysm) blocked at 55 percent and 35 percent of his carotid artery. He does not need immediate treatment, but he needs medication. The detailed examination result was sent via e-mail today. The result is even more disastrous. He had already expected the result. On May 17, 1980, when the killer Chun Doo-hwan was expanding martial law nationwide, he was caught in front of the death of Lee Se-jong, the first victim of the 5.18-year-old Lee Se-jong, and tortured him for five months in the basement of the security guards. He was killed for two days after being hit in the head with a 5-pound iron pipe. He survived like a miracle, but he came to the U.S. and somehow managed to survive. Here is the first medical team's opinion on the result.
.
"The ApoE gene test is normal. Genetically, there are no more dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or cardiovascular obstruction. However, MRI, MRA, and hippocampal MRI results showed endless readings in various parts of the brain, including past ischemia, past infarction, loss of brain volume, atrophic changes, past infarction, small blood vessel disease, multi-site cerebral artery stenosis, and medial occipital lobe atrophy. This may be due to the torture you received in the past, and you may have lived with these and other symptoms, but it's a miracle you're alive like this. Please consult your American doctors for further treatment."
