ChatGPT heralded a world that would change even faster.

Sam Altman, the father of ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence that shocked the world, and the founder of OpenAI, is a dropout.  After dropping out of college, he set up a startup and achieved great success.

There are too many entrepreneurs in the United States who have dropped out of school and achieved global success, such as Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates.  Starting a business after dropping out is not uncommon in the United States, as there is a Peter Thiel Scholarship that provides 100 million won on condition of dropping out of school.  There is even a joke about 'dropping out on top of a doctor'.

However, it would have been difficult to muster up the courage to drop out without faith in the social environment in the United States, where you can stand up again even if you fail.

In Silicon Valley, it is common to challenge yourself in a new field that is different from your major.  OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman is also a school dropout.  He had no proficiency in machine learning until he joined Open AI, but he became an expert enough to serve as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Open AI through self-study projects.  Mira Murati, who succeeded him as the current chairman of OpenAI and became the CTO, is also not a computer science major.  Despite not having a master's or doctoral degree, she is called 'the mother of ChatGPT'.

Sam Altman, the founder of ChatGPT, who visited Korea last month, said at a meeting with Koreans, "There are many people who do not have a degree in Open AI. Some people do a different job than their major. I think it is important to be able to do the job," introducing the 'Residency' program that helps employees change their job.

Behind ChatGPT, which opened a new era in the use of artificial intelligence, there was an inclusive culture where people with various educational backgrounds and backgrounds could unfold their abilities and visions.

In Silicon Valley, where it is common for students to build a company with investment and sell the company they have grown, it is common to dream and challenge to start a business.  If you don't dream, you feel like you're falling behind.

On the other hand, Korean students lose their creativity from the hell of pre-learning and entrance exams from the time they are in elementary school, and have to put off their dreams until they enter college.  Dropping out of college is an even tougher choice.  Some students drop out of prestigious universities, but most of them leave school to go to medical school.  Many talented people prefer a stable working life by getting a job at a public company or a large company.  There is still a perception that academic background is a 'label that follows you for life'.

ChatGPT heralded a world that would change even faster.  We need to create a social atmosphere where people can succeed without going to college, dropping out of college, or working in a field different from their major, as long as they have the ability.  In order for talented people to go out into the world with dreams rather than resumes, education and social atmosphere must change.
