■ People who are scared of the white bone are scarier

Recently, the "Baekgoldan," a youth organization formed to protect the presidential residence in Yoon Suk Yeol, has been at the center of controversy. The noise and awkward and ambiguous appearance in the formation process are highly likely to end up as a happening that occurred in the chaotic situation.

Apart from this issue, however, the historical context evoked by the name "white bone" needs to be pointed out.

Those who take issue with the name of the controversial group this time are generally reminiscent of the white bone squad of the 1980s and 1990s. The white bone squad that they came to mind is a nickname of the plainclothes movement that was used to suppress illegal violent protests.

Most of them were pro-North Korean communist left-wing movements aimed at overthrowing the South Korean government and unifying the enemy forces that were absorbed by North Korea, despite the fact that the anti-government protests wrapped up in the student movement ostensibly demanded democratization. At the time, demonstrators were extremely violent, including being armed with iron pipes and throwing jjangdol and firebombs.

The state is obliged to maintain social order, protect the lives and property of its people, and deal with illegal and violent crimes. A middle school girl who was hit by a firebomb thrown by activists at a protest held in Gwangju in November 1989 had to undergo surgery dozens of times with a neutral injury. Was it just one or two of these incidents?

The state inevitably needed a tough response to counter violent demonstrators with iron pipes and firebombs, and the White Goldan stood at the forefront and suppressed those who committed illegal violence to the best of their ability. There may have been an element of excessive suppression in the process, but this can happen sufficiently in the process of suppressing illegal violence committed by the majority.

If the word "white bone" is regarded as a symbol of oppression and violence beyond mere verbal signifiers, it is no different from sympathizing with the communist forces who want to confuse society and paralyze the function of the government. Do we still need to understand the generation who miss the nostalgia of the activist days when they staged violent protests and performed a death exorcism in which the deceased were crowned as martyrs?

They feel disgusted at how they wrap themselves up as Zen monks. Only in their early 20s can a sense of justice burn up in order to correct the great evil without knowing anything, and move around the iron pipes to the communist left and right, but those who have glorified the time, rather praise the wrongs, and have no remorse are incomprehensible and frightening.

I think illegal violent protests by the KCTU and others should be suppressed more strongly than at the current level.
